Graham is one of four high schools in Tazewell County located in Bluefield. Graham, Virginia took on the name of Bluefield in 1924 because of its close proximity to Bluefield, West Virginia. The high school retained the name Graham and adopted the moniker of "Graham Men" subsequently shortened to "G-Men." Theories of the orgin of G-Men can be traced to the year 1936-37 when news reporter Stubby Currence, writing about the football team, often said, "They always get their man," a reference to FBI agents also known as G-Men. The original school colors were orange and maroon, later changed to maroon and gray. In 1956, a new school was erected in the Double Gates area of Bluefield, Virginia. Graham High School has maintained a tradition of educational excellence under twelve principals. This excellence was rewarded when Graham High School was named one of the first schools in the state of Virginia to be Internationally Accredited. The school continues to remain one of the few schools in the state to have such an honor. In 2000, Graham was selected as one of the top five schools in the state of Virginia. Graham is also home to multiple state championship teams in the areas of theater, creative writing, academic team, football, and girls tennis. With continuing improvements and high standards, the future of Graham High School remains very promising.
