The Graham High School Jazz Band is a division of the Graham Music Department. Unlike many other local schools which have jazz band as an extracurricular activity, Graham offers jazz band as an elective course for those students in general band. Jazz band is a selective group which is composed of students selected by audition or by demonstrating ability to master advanced and intermediate music. Students study and perform music styles ranging from big band swing to hard rock including songs like: Tuxedo Junction, In The Mood, My Funny Valentine, Get It On!, Heavy Duty, Alexander's Ragtime Band, and many more. In addition to meeting every day during school, the Jazz Band performs at multiple events throughout the year. In two years alone, the band has performed at numerous events as representatives of the Graham High Music Program. Just a few of the performances include: Bluefield Rotary Club Meetings, GHS Talent Show, Graham Square Dedication, pep-assemblies, multiple GHS basketball games, and Bluefield College Ramblin' Rams basketball games. Two of the largest performances were at the Disney Magic Kingdom- once in the Starlight Cafe and once in Tomorrowland. Click for pictures from the 2005 DISNEY TRIP. |
